Events in 2012

Last year, photographers, photography clubs and local businesses across the globe celebrated photography in their own unique way. Leveraging the day to build relationships with local photographers.

Hamilton, New Zealand
In 2012, Snapshot Cameras, a local camera store in New Zealand celebrated photographic history in a very special way. Not only did they have a collection of old cameras on display, they also had a local Daguerreotypist, Alan Bekhuis expose and develop daguerreotypes onsite in his mobile darkroom.

“I’ve been in the photographic industry all my life, And this is the first time I have been privileged to see a daguerreotype plate exposed and developed”. - Graham Boswell, MD of Snapshot Cameras.

Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore & Kolkata, India
Nikon India celebrated World Photography day with a photo walk in 4 separate cities. As an extension of the Nikon School initiative, the photo walks covered topics such as exposure control, creative use of white-Balance, controlling depth-of-field, etc.

“Nikon believes in being 'At the heart of the image', and the World Photography Day celebration is another effort by the company to encourage photography enthusiasts in India to express themselves.” - Hiroshi Takashina, MD Nikon India.

Things to do this World Photography Day

World Photography Day is all about celebrating photography and we want to encourage photographers to celebrate photography across the globe both online and offline.

Submit a photo in our open gallery

Every Year, we have hosted an online gallery for photography lovers across the globe to join the World Photography Day celebration. The gallery is open for uploads between August 19-26.

Check the Event Calendar to see what's happening near you

We encourage anyone that's organising a public World Photography Day event to add it to our global events calendar. Take a look and see what's happening around you. You can even organise your own photo-walk, exhibition or photographers meet in your area.

Plan a Photo Adventure

Love the outdoors? Plan a trip to a National Park for a hike or bush walk and capture your local wildlife and landscape. If you're more of an indoors person, perhaps you could head off on a photography exhibition crawl across town.

Go on a photography date

If you're both into photography, a nice relaxing atmosphere with great photo opportunities sounds great right? How about checking out a local vineyard and snapping a few photos over wine tasting, lunch and a vineyard tour.

Stay in and read a good photography book

Love spending time reading? Here are two fantastic photography books worth looking at The Art of Photography: An Approach to Personal Expression and Photo Inspiration: Secrets Behind Stunning Images. Learn something new about photography and share about it on your blog.
