World Photography Day?!

There’s been many people that have mentioned that they’ve never heard of World Photography Day. Why is that? World Photography Day wasn’t ‘created’ by a big brand as a marketing tool. Rather, it’s a day where photographers had started to come together to celebrate photography, just because they could. Any excuse to throw a party right?

Slowly, groups around the world have started to get on board with the idea of World Photography Day and you will see that there’s traces of World Photography Day being celebrated over the last 20 years or so. Each year, World Photography Day has gained momentum and this year, we’re hoping to bring photographers together once again with an even larger audience.

Tomorrow, August 19th is World Photography Day and as photography lovers, we’re celebrating! Why? Well, why not?

Help us spread the word on Twitter, Flickr and Facebook.

Let’s make this World Photography Day, the biggest yet!

Register and share your world with the world!

It’s still under construction but we hope you like the new look so far as much as we do.

Simple Photography Tips

We asked you: “If there was one photography tip you could share with the world, what would it be?”

And we received some great responses!

What our Facebook friends say

  • Renee S
breath in before u snap away..so the photo wont be blurry lol
  • Kay W
Try to minimise sky in outdoor shots unless you are photographing clouds!
  • Courtney V
use good light i guess… and dont over photoshop haha
  • Ria W
take a quick scan of ur background before u shoot, u may want to take a step to the side – only takes a second but can save someone from having a pole sticking out of their head
  • Jane M
    don’t use the automatic setting!
  • Salil K
Be a photographer rather than a autographer :)
  • Ken S
The harder you look the less you see …
  • Jody T
    focus focus focus!!
  • Tania W
get low.. on your knee’s, on your stomach.. its a whole new world from that angle!
  • Stelios P
Learn to use MANUAL controls! the auto setting should be made illegal!
  • Nichola C
For portraiture… Engage yr subject, show them how to pose, don’t be afraid to move them or be a little bossy with good humour. People don’t always naturally pose well. And laugh and enjoy it with them.
  • Dave S
A camera is just a box with a piece of glass stuck on it unless you actually use it. So get out there and take some great photo’s. Oh, and remember to check in the corners of the frame, it’s surprising what can creep in!
  • Lisa O
    use your zooooooom
  • Sherrianne T
The best advice I ever received was “zoom with your feet rather than your lens”. Your whole perspective changes with ever few steps that you take either backward or forward.
  • Joshua H
Capture the image the way you see it, to share it with others who couldn’t be to see it with you.
  • Lee D
Carry a camera where ever you go
  • Jamie N
    Remember to look up…
  • Micha D
Try to view the world through the eyes of a child. For a child everything is new and exciting. That way even the ordinary can become extraordinary.
  • Lucy G
    Take plenty of batteries!!!!
